Nanoporous polypropylene membrane contactors for CO2 and H2S capture using alkali absorbents

D. Petukhov et al.

Summary: The study reviews the performance of nanoporous gas-liquid polypropylene membrane contactors with NaOH absorbents for removing H2S and CO2 from gas streams. Experimental results show that operation conditions, absorbent saturation levels, and membrane parameters significantly affect the contactor efficiency. The mass transfer rates and removal efficiencies differ for H2S and CO2, allowing selective removal of H2S with high H2S/CO2 selectivity.

Electrochemical precipitation to reduce waste brine salinity

Boor Singh Lalia et al.

Summary: Desalination of seawater is a main method for producing fresh water in many countries, but waste brine or concentrate rejects can have adverse effects on the environment due to high salinity. This study presents a simple process for reducing the salinity of concentrated brine and producing calcium and magnesium oxides, using an electrochemical system. By applying a DC potential, the system reduces the TDS of the brine solution and decreases cations and anions in the treated brine.

Gas-liquid membrane contactors for carbon dioxide separation: A review

Seungju Kim et al.

Summary: Membrane gas-liquid contactors are developed to enhance gas absorption process efficiency and reduce energy consumption, by combining membrane separation and amine absorption technologies. A major technical challenge is the wetting of membrane pores by solvent, which lowers mass transfer coefficient. However, factors like solvent selection and operational temperature are also crucial for success.

Inherent Metal Elements in Biomass Pyrolysis: A Review

Paola Giudicianni et al.

Summary: The main drawback of using biomass as pyrolysis feedstock is the huge variability of different biomass resources, particularly due to inherent inorganic elements like AAEMs. Experimental investigations on the interactions between these elements and biomass organic fraction during pyrolysis are still debated. Analyzing possible experimental inconsistencies paves the way for modifying existing models to capture the effect of inorganics on pyrolysis kinetics.

Summary: The sour gas from the west fields of Kuwait contains high concentrations of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, which are currently treated with energy-intensive processes. However, using polymeric membranes could provide a more energy-efficient solution for acid gas removal and gas dehydration, although it may result in lower hydrocarbons recovery. Further research is needed to optimize the process for a higher hydrocarbons recovery rate.
