The real-time dynamic multi-objective optimization of a building integrated photovoltaic thermal (BIPV/T) system enhanced by phase change materials

Ali Sohani et al.

Summary: This study determines the optimal thickness of phase change material (PCM) in a building integrated photovoltaic thermal system using dynamic multi-objective optimization. The study considers performance throughout a year using real-time data and uses various factors, including energy storage capacity, electricity production, cost, and environmental impact, as objective functions. The results show that using PCM with the optimal thickness significantly improves energy storage capacity, electricity production, carbon dioxide reduction, and cost compared to using air as the energy storage material.

Assessment of wind and solar PV local complementarity for the hybridization of the wind power plants installed in Portugal

Antonio Couto et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the potential for hybridization of existing wind parks in Portugal with solar photovoltaic generation, showing high potential for increasing the share of variable renewable energy sources with minimal energy curtailment. The interior regions of central and northern Portugal exhibit the highest and most consistent levels of complementarity between wind and solar resources, allowing for large-scale exploration and extension of hybrid renewable power plants. Portugal's favorable weather conditions enable the concept of hybrid power plants to be widely explored and replicated for increasing the penetration of renewable energy in electrical power systems while minimizing overall costs.
