Autonomous energy management system with self-healing capabilities for buildings (microgrids)

Mansour Selseleh Jonban et al.

Summary: This paper presents a smart control and energy management system for a DC microgrid that distributes demand among several generators. An energy management system (EMS) based on multi-agent system (MAS) controller is developed to manage energy, control voltage, and maintain balance between supply and demand in the system to support reliability. The proposed approach includes a self-healing hierarchical algorithm to control agent interaction and ensure system reliability under faults, providing a robust and stable control of the microgrid.

Deep reinforcement learning for energy management in a microgrid with flexible demand

Taha Abdelhalim Nakabi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of various deep reinforcement learning algorithms in enhancing the energy management system of a microgrid. A novel microgrid model is proposed and seven algorithms are implemented and compared. The results show significant differences in convergence to optimal policies among the algorithms, with the modified asynchronous advantage actor-critic algorithm achieving the highest model performance and convergence to near-optimal policies.

Optimizing the Size of Autonomous Hybrid Microgrids with Regard to Load Shifting

Alexander Lavrik et al.

Summary: The article proposes a method to optimize the size of autonomous hybrid energy systems based on the minimum net present value criterion, resulting in multiple optimal configurations. The study shows that optimizing the hybrid power system size with electric load shifting can reduce the share of load not covered by renewable energy sources, decrease net present cost and payback period, improve technical and economic indicators, but increase CO2 emissions.
