Transport property evolution during hydrostatic and triaxial compression of a high porosity sandstone

Cong Hu et al.

Summary: This research investigates the permeability and porosity evolution of a Vosges sandstone under different stress paths. The results show that under hydrostatic stress, permeability is more influenced by irreversible deformation, while under non-hydrostatic loading, permeability continuously decreases with deviatoric stress, mainly due to sand production.

Permeability Evolution During Shear Zone Initiation in Low-Porosity Rocks

Christian Kluge et al.

Summary: Through innovative experimental set-up, a shear zone with cylindrical geometry was generated under in situ reservoir conditions, allowing for monitoring of permeability and fracture dilation evolution. The permeability and fracture dilation responses were found to vary between sandstone and granite, with reversible changes observed during pressure cycling.

Insight into particle detachment in clogging of porous media; a pore scale study using lattice Boltzmann method

Amin Parvan et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of particle detachment on hydraulic properties and clogging of porous media by simulating particle transport at the pore scale. The results suggest that the initial porosity of the media has a greater influence on controlling the rate of detachment and change of pore structures compared to flow velocity.

Simultaneous determination of the effective stress coefficients for permeability and volumetric strain on a tight sandstone

Steffen Nolte et al.

Summary: Gas transport processes in low-permeable sandstones at elevated pore pressures involve a combination of fluid-dynamic and rock-mechanical stress effects. Permeability experiments with gas and volumetric strain measurements were used to assess the interdependency of both processes. The results showed that the modified effective stress laws and a clay-shell pore structure model were effective in describing the interrelated changes in permeability and bulk volume with respect to pore and confining pressure.

Effect of Effective Pressure on the Permeability of Rocks Based on Well Testing Results

Evgenii Vasilevich Kozhevnikov et al.

Summary: The study revealed a significant decrease in permeability with an increase in effective pressure in oil and gas field development. By analyzing existing methods for describing rock permeability changes, it is possible to predict the changes in permeability of terrigenous reservoirs in the north Perm region oil fields.

A Model of Reservoir Permeability Evolution during Oil Production

Evgenii Kozhevnikov et al.

Summary: The study presented a mathematical model to predict rock permeability evolution under effective pressure during oil production, based on well testing data. It established relationships between flow characteristics in reservoirs and effective pressure, performed comparative assessments using normalized data, and determined the impact factors on permeability change. The research also identified the variation limits of constants in empirical equations describing rock permeability change.

Stress sensitivity of porosity and permeability under varying hydrostatic stress conditions for different carbonate rock types of the geothermal Malm reservoir in Southern Germany

Daniel Bohnsack et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the stress sensitivity of porosity in rock cores from geothermal reservoir systems is relatively low, while the relative permeability losses increase with higher effective stresses. The stress sensitivity of permeability may be influenced by more complex processes compared to that of porosity, which is mainly controlled by the compressibility of the pore space.
