Diffusiophoretic velocity of a spherical soft particle

Hiroyuki Ohshima

Summary: This paper investigates the diffusiophoretic velocity of a spherical soft particle in an electrolyte concentration gradient and derives a general expression for it. For weakly charged soft particles, the obtained expression is shown to be consistent with previous research results. In addition, a simple approximate analytic expression is obtained for the case where the particle core radius and the thickness of the polyelectrolyte layer are much larger than the Debye length and the Brinkman screening length.

Approximate analytic expressions for the diffusiophoretic velocity of a spherical colloidal particle

Hiroyuki Ohshima

Summary: The general expression for the diffusiophoretic velocity of a spherical colloidal particle in a concentration gradient of symmetrical electrolyte is derived, from which simple approximate analytic expressions correcting up to the order of 1/kappa a are obtained. It is found that the approximate expressions correcting up to the unity order can be applied for kappa a >= 50 with negligible errors, while the expressions correcting up to the 1/kappa a order can be applied for kappa a >= 20 with negligible errors.

Diffusiophoretic velocity of a large spherical colloidal particle in a solution of general electrolytes

Hiroyuki Ohshima

Summary: The general expression for the diffusiophoretic velocity of large spherical colloidal particles in a concentration gradient of general electrolytes is derived, and simple approximate analytic expressions for the diffusiophoretic velocity have been obtained. These expressions are suitable for large particles with negligible errors.

Diffusiophoresis of a Highly Charged Soft Particle in Electrolyte Solutions

Yu-Fan Lee et al.

Summary: This theoretical study focuses on the diffusiophoresis of a soft particle in a symmetric binary electrolyte solution, investigating the impact of various parameters such as charge density and electrolyte strength on particle motion. Nonlinear phenomena, including mobility reversal and double-layer polarization effects, are observed. The study provides crucial insights for practical applications of soft particles, such as drug delivery.

Diffusiophoresis of a highly charged soft particle in electrolyte solutions induced by diffusion potential

Yvonne Wu et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates diffusiophoresis of a single soft particle in an electrolyte solution with induced diffusion potential. The electrokinetic parameters are extensively examined, with a focus on the nonlinear effects of highly charged particles. The research reveals that soft particles move fastest in dilute electrolyte solutions and that the size of the particle plays a significant role in its mobility under various structural and electrokinetic conditions.

Diffusiophoresis of a highly charged dielectric fluid droplet

Yvonne Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates diffusiophoresis of dielectric fluid droplets in a symmetric binary electrolyte solution, focusing on the chemiphoresis component. It found reversions of moving directions for droplets with increased electrolyte strength and an upward spouting effect on the droplet surface. The study suggests that diffusion-induced double layer polarization is the fundamental cause of droplet motion.

Impact of ion partitioning and double layer polarization on diffusiophoresis of a pH-regulated nanogel

Partha Sarathi Majee et al.

Summary: This study investigates diffusion of a charge regulated spherical polyelectrolyte nanogel under externally imposed ionic concentration gradient, taking into account various factors such as ion partitioning effects and chemiphoresis. The modified governing equations are numerically solved to obtain results in good agreement with existing analytical solutions. Diffusiophoresis mechanism is illustrated through measurements of induced electric field and effective charge density, showing dependence on electrokinetic parameters and higher diffusiophoretic velocity for pH > IEP compared to pH < IEP.
