Transcriptome-based screening of ion channels and transporters in a migratory chondroprogenitor cell line isolated from late-stage osteoarthritic cartilage

Csaba Matta et al.

Summary: Chondrogenic progenitor cells (CPCs) may have superior chondrogenic potential compared to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), with a distinct channelome characteristic, including calcium-dependent potassium channels such as BK channels. The KCNMA1 gene was found to be upregulated in CPCs and associated with BK channel activity, impacting proliferation, gene expression, migration, and calcium events in CPCs. These findings contribute to a better understanding of CPCs and their potential in cartilage regeneration.
