PEM water electrolysis cells with catalyst coating by atomic layer deposition

A. Laube et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the feasibility of a PEM water electrolysis cell design using atomic layer deposition (ALD) in sulfuric acid, achieving high current density and activity by reducing iridium and platinum catalyst loading. Detailed analysis confirms the reproducibility of the cell setup, and further research shows increasing cell performance with more coating cycles.

Properties, performance and stability of iridium-coated water oxidation electrodes based on anodized titanium felts

Andre Hofer et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the preparation of porous titanium felts for water oxidation electrodes, combining anodization and atomic layer deposition (ALD) techniques. Different electrodes prepared under various conditions showed differences in performance and stability, with electrodes prepared in water showing lower stability and performance compared to those prepared in organic electrolytes. However, all samples exhibited significant cost reduction due to very low catalyst loading.
