Electrochemical analysis of a microbial electrochemical snorkel in laboratory and constructed wetlands

Joanna Roginska et al.

Summary: Microbial electrochemical snorkel (MES) is a microbial fuel cell suitable for water treatment, which does not generate energy but has lower implementation costs. Testing different materials and configurations of the snorkel helps to better understand its operation in wetlands.

First evidence for applicability of the microbial electrochemical snorkel for metal recovery

Mario Mitov et al.

Summary: The study presents the proof-of-principle of metal recovery using microbial electrochemical snorkel (MES) for the first time. Experimental comparison of MES setups with and without proton exchange membrane (PEM) isolation and MFC revealed that MES shows superior performance in copper removal and recovery efficiency, surpassing MFC in copper regeneration.
