3D-printed hybrid-carbon-based electrodes for electroanalytical sensing applications

Jesus E. Contreras-Naranjo et al.

Summary: This work introduces miniaturized, fully integrated, 3D-printed, hybrid-carbon electrodes fabricated using a Fused Deposition Modeling 3D-printer, marking the first use of a CNT/CB/PLA filament material in an electrochemical sensing system. The hybrid-carbon electrode consists of a non-conductive ABS substrate and a CNT/CB/PLA three-electrode array, activated through a cost-effective two-step process and demonstrated to detect dopamine. The simplicity, portability, low cost, and rapid fabrication of these electrodes suggest their potential for true point-of-care 3D-printed electrochemical sensing systems, paving the way for the development of new PLA filaments for improved performance.
