Polypyridyl copper complexes as dye sensitizer and redox mediator for dye-sensitized solar cells

Jeanet Conradie

Summary: This mini review briefly discusses the developments on the application of polypyridyl-based copper complexes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Copper complexes can be used as dye sensitizers and/or as redox mediators in DSSCs. The abundance and low cost of copper make it a cheaper and non-toxic alternative to the commonly used iodide/triiodide electrolyte redox couple and the expensive and rare ruthenium-based dyes.

Transition Metal Complexes as Catalysts for the Electroconversion of CO2: An Organometallic Perspective

Niklas W. Kinzel et al.

Summary: The electrocatalytic transformation of carbon dioxide has long been a topic of interest, with recent focus on it as an alternative strategy for CO2 reduction. Studies have increasingly looked at direct electron transfer and molecular transition metal complexes as catalysts. This can lead to the production of C-1 compounds as well as more complex transformations.

Electrochemical study of the Mn(II/III) oxidation of tris (polypyridine)manganese(II) complexes

Zinhle Mtshali et al.

Summary: This study presents the electrochemical behavior of a series of tris(polypyridine) manganese(II) complexes with substituents ranging from electron withdrawing to electron donating. The Mn(II/III) redox couple shows irreversible behavior, which may be attributed to geometry distortion or electron rearrangement upon oxidation. The study also establishes a linear relationship between DFT calculated solvent phase energies and experimental reduction potentials, accurately predicting the reduction potentials of related complexes.

Mo Fischer Carbene Complexes: A DFT Study on the Prediction of Redox Potentials

Adebayo A. Adeniyi et al.

Summary: The electronic properties of Fischer carbenes can be tuned by changing the metal environment and their carbene substituents. Density functional theory methods are used to predict the experimental 1e(-) reduction and the 2e(-) oxidation potential of Mo carbenes. Experimental redox potentials - theoretically calculated descriptor relationships were obtained for predicting reduction and oxidation potential of the Mo Fischer carbene complexes.
