Inhalation and ingestion of Synthetic musks in pregnant women: In silico spontaneous abortion risk evaluation and control

Xixi Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to reduce the abortion risk of Synthetic musks (SMs) by designing a supplementary diet plan and environmentally friendly SMs derivatives using molecular docking and 3D-QSAR models. The combination of vitamins in the diet plan reduced abortion risk for pregnant women. The new SMs derivative showed lower environmental impacts and improved functional properties compared to the precursor, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical circumvention strategy for abortion risk control.

Chemometric modeling of plant protection products (PPPs) for the prediction of acute contact toxicity against honey bees (A. mellifera): A 2D-QSAR approach

Rajendra Kumar Mukherjee et al.

Summary: The study developed a 2D-QSAR model to explore the structural features modulating the toxic effects on honey bees. Validation based on OECD guidelines demonstrated the reliability and predictability of the model for assessing toxicity of new compounds. The model provides a useful tool for predicting toxicity and can be applied to untested compounds within its domain.

Toxicity inhibition strategy of microplastics to aquatic organisms through molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation and molecular modification

Xinyi Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the combined toxic effects of microplastics and additives on zebrafish using full factorial design method, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulation. The results identified the optimal combination of microplastics that exhibited the lowest aquatic toxicity effect, with hydrophobic force, hydrogen bonding force, and electrostatic force being the main driving forces for binding. Additionally, analysis of the main effects and second-order interactions of the microplastic-additives combination helped identify key additives affecting aquatic toxicity and construct the optimal level of component combination for low aquatic toxicity effects.

Antonio Hernandez-Martinez et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Perinatal Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Questionnaire (PPQ) in Spanish by surveying 432 Spanish puerperal women through online administration. Results indicated that the PPQ showed adequate psychometric properties when used for screening PTSD in postpartum Spanish women.

Synthesis of novel oligomeric anionic alkyl glycosides using laccase/TEMPO oxidation and cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (CGTase)-catalyzed transglycosylation

Ngoc T. N. Ngo et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the synthesis of new anionic alkyl glycosides with long carbohydrate chains using laccase/TEMPO oxidation and CGTase catalysis approaches. The efficiencies and product stabilities of the two methods varied, with laccase/TEMPO oxidation showing depolymerization issues, while CGTase catalysis yielding high conversions especially when using Toruzyme. pH was found to have a strong influence on enzyme activity and acceptor specificity, with optimal pH ranges differing for non-ionic and acidic substrates.

An adjusted 3D-QSAR model for the combined activity of fluoroquinolones photodegradation and microbial degradation assisted by dynamic simulation and its application in molecular modification

Wenhui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a comprehensive method for characterizing the combined degradation effect of modified fluoroquinolones through various models and simulations. By screening derivatives with improved degradation effect and performing risk assessments, the study demonstrated the reliability of the revised 3D-QSAR model and provided insights for molecular design. Additionally, the study investigated the simulation paths of photo- and microbial degradation, and used MD and toxicokinetics simulations to predict potential environmental risks of degradation pathways, contributing to the screening of environmentally friendly drugs and risk management strategies.

In vitro skin penetration of bronidox, bronopol and formaldehyde from cosmetics

Lucia Lopez-Sanchez et al.

Summary: The study found that the transdermal absorption of preservatives is influenced by different formulations, with aqueous solutions enhancing absorption of bronopol and bronidox, while the O/W emulsion shows the lowest absorption of bronidox. The transdermal absorption of formaldehyde depends on the formulation, with the aqueous solution allowing greater absorption. Formaldehyde released from bronopol or DMDM hydantoin does not depend on excipients. The overall transdermal absorption of all tested preservatives is low, and concentrations within regulations are considered safe for use. However, long-term exposure to bronopol and DMDM hydantoin may lead to formaldehyde detection, suggesting the need to consider limiting the use of these preservatives to rinse-off products.
