Effect of marine heatwaves on bloom formation of the harmful dinoflagellate Cochlodinium polykrikoides: Two sides of the same coin?

Young Kyun Lim et al.

Summary: The study found that in 2018, high water temperatures and heatwaves in Korean coastal waters led to the bloom of harmful dinoflagellate Cochlodinium polykrikoides. Early stratification conditions played a critical role in the algae bloom, but maintaining the bloom under high water temperatures had a negative impact.
