Evaluation of Gum-line Recession for Aging Lynx (Lynx canadensis)

Michael J. L. Peers et al.

Summary: Accurate age estimation is crucial for wildlife research and management, but the minimally-invasive method of gum-line recession proved to be unreliable for determining the age of Canada lynx in this study. While it may not accurately estimate age, it can help determine age class. There were significant differences in gum-line recession measurements between age classes and lack of repeatability between observers.
