Nucleation of the Theophylline:Salicylic Acid 1:1 Cocrystal

Hannah McTague et al.

Summary: The nucleation behavior of the theophylline-salicylic acid 1:1 (THP:SA) cocrystal in chloroform was studied and compared with pure compounds. It was found that the cocrystal requires a higher driving force for nucleation compared to pure compounds. Despite having a smaller molecular size and higher solubility, salicylic acid is less nucleation-prone compared to theophylline. Additionally, the cocrystal has an interfacial energy between the pure compounds and requires the highest nucleation work due to its higher molecular volume.
