Experimental investigation of heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of internal finned tubes

Yu-Wen Pai et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the laminar flow characteristics in a water-to-water double pipe heat exchanger, specifically focusing on the effect of finned tubes on heat transfer and pressure drop. The results show that the number of fins has a significant impact on heat transfer at higher Reynolds numbers, while the differences are negligible at lower Reynolds numbers. Additionally, the heat transfer benefit tends to decrease with increasing pressure drop. Empirical correlations between Nusselt number, friction factor, and Reynolds number are proposed.
