Bioregulators: unlocking their potential role in regulation of the plant oxidative defense system

Faisal Zulfiqar et al.

Summary: Plant bioregulators play a crucial role in managing oxidative stress tolerance in plants, offering a potential solution for food production under the threat of climate change through genetic engineering. Their ability to induce tolerance in stress sensitive crops highlights the importance of exploiting the plant defense system to engineer tolerant plants in the face of climate change. This review emphasizes the significance of PBRs in developing plants more resilient to harsh environmental conditions and discusses the advancement in engineering transgenic plants with modified PBR gene expression for enhanced oxidative stress resistance in an agricultural context.

Identification of genetic variation for salt tolerance in Brassica napus using genome-wide association mapping

Ghulam Mustafa Wassan et al.

Summary: Our study identified 142 significant SNP markers associated with salt tolerance in rapeseed, distributed across all chromosomes, with 78 SNPs in the C genome and 64 SNPs in the A genome. Furthermore, we identified 117 possible candidate genes associated with these SNPs, including orthologous with Arabidopsis thaliana genes encoding transcription factors, aquaporins, and binding proteins. Our results provide valuable genetic resources for improving salt tolerance in rapeseed genotypes and for future functional characterization of putative gene candidates.

Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) to Identify Salt-Tolerance QTLs Carrying Novel Candidate Genes in Rice During Early Vegetative Stage

Leila Nayyeripasand et al.

Summary: This study identified rice genomic regions associated with early stage salinity tolerance and candidate genes using genome-wide association study. The identified genes can be used for improving salinity tolerance in rice breeding programs and further study can help uncover the mechanisms of salinity tolerance at molecular level.

Identification and development of novel salt-responsive candidate gene based SSRs (cg-SSRs) and MIR gene based SSRs (mir-SSRs) in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum)

Geetika Mehta et al.

Summary: In this study, 171 salt-responsive genes were identified from the bread wheat genome, with 10 cg-SSRs and 8 miR-SSRs found to be polymorphic. Genetic diversity analysis revealed wide genetic variation among wheat genotypes, grouping them into three clusters, one of which mainly consisted of salt susceptible genotypes.

QTLs in salt rice variety CSR10 reveals salinity tolerance at reproductive stage

Preeti Pundir et al.

Summary: The study identified several important QTLs related to traits such as sodium, potassium, and yield on different chromosomes by evaluating 140 F-2 populations for salt tolerance. Significant QTLs related to sodium/potassium ratio on chromosome 1 had high phenotypic variance explanation. Besides novel QTLs for yield and stress tolerance index, QTLs for chlorophyll and proline content in leaves under salinity were also discovered.

Salt tolerance in rice: seedling and reproductive stage QTL mapping come of age

Rakesh Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: Reproductive stage salinity tolerance is crucial for rice yield under stress, but research has mainly focused on seedling stage tolerance. Despite different sensitivities at various growth stages, there is poor correlation between sensitivity at seedling and reproductive stages. Further studies on reproductive stage tolerance in rice are necessary to enhance future productivity.
