Three-phase partitioning, a recyclable method for the purification of R-phycoerythrin from a red algae Porphyra yezoensis

Summary: In this study, R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) was isolated and characterized from Porphyra yezoensis using the three-phase partitioning (TPP) method. The optimal extraction conditions were determined and the structure and optical activity of R-PE were confirmed. The results showed that TPP is an efficient, green, and recyclable extraction technology.

Summary: The purification of R-phycoerythrin from Gracilaria corticata was efficiently achieved using a single-step chromatographic method based on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, maintaining structural integrity, UV-Vis spectrum characteristics, and stability. In vitro studies demonstrated the effective cell imaging properties of purified R-PE without impacting cell proliferation in Vero and Hep-2 cell lines.
