This review focuses on the development of fluorimetric and colorimetric chemodosimeters over the past 9 years for sensing environmentally and biologically important metal ions. It includes a variety of metal ions such as Hg2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Pd2+, Pb2+, Al3+, U2+, Ce4+, Au3+, Zn2+, Cr3+, Ag+, Ni2+, and Nb2+. The sensing mechanism for each metal ion is further classified based on the reactions involved. The review includes a total of 274 references.
The present review focus on the fluorimetric and colorimetric chemodosimeters developed during the past 9 years for sensing of environmentally and biologically important metal ions. It includes a variety of metal ions like Hg2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Pd2+, Pb2+, Al3+, U2+, Ce4+, Au3+, Zn2+, Cr3+, Ag+, Ni2+ and Nb2+. The sensing mechanism of the probe for each metal ion is further classified based on the reactions involved, such as oxidation or hydrolysis of functional units, desulfurization reaction of thioamides, thioureas and thiones, cyclisation, ring-opening reactions, depropargylation, metalation of coordination sites etc. This review includes 274 references.
