Recent applications and developments of Polyurethane materials in pavement engineering

Xianrui Li et al.

Summary: Polyurethane (PU) as an emerging polymer material has been widely utilized in civil engineering infrastructures and pavement engineering due to its excellent physical and chemical properties. PU materials can be used for construction, repair, reinforcement, and protection of infrastructure, as well as for new construction and maintenance of roads. The potential economic benefits and environmental impacts of using PU materials in pavement engineering for sustainability were discussed.

Experimental investigation on the performance of bone glue and crumb rubber compound modified asphalt

Songtao Lv et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of BG and CR composite modification on asphalt performance, showing that it enhances high- and low-temperature characteristics, increases rutting factor, recovery rate, and creep rate, while reducing creep modulus and non-recoverable creep compliance. The composite modification between BG, CR, and asphalt matrix was identified as a physical process through FT-IR spectroscopy.

Use of the multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR) test to characterize the rutting potential of asphalt binders: A literature review

Hanqi Liu et al.

Summary: The MSCR test has been accepted to improve rutting assessment in the Superpave system, focusing on non-recoverable creep compliance and percent recovery to evaluate the resistance and elastic response of asphalt binders. Despite its success in rutting characterization, the MSCR test faces debates over test protocol and analysis methods.

A laboratory study of epoxy/polyurethane modified asphalt binders and mixtures suitable for flexible bridge deck pavement

Zengping Zhang et al.

Summary: The research shows that using polyurethane and epoxy resin to modify asphalt binder can effectively improve its mechanical strength, flexibility, and storage stability, with 8wt% PU and 32wt% EP being the optimal content. In terms of low-temperature cracking resistance, the EPU modified asphalt mixture significantly outperforms epoxy asphalt mixture and shows promising application prospects in flexible bridge deck pavement engineering.
