Internal curing efficiency and key properties of UHPC influenced by dry or prewetted calcined bauxite aggregate with different particle size

Yalin Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of using different particle sizes of CB and IC water incorporation methods on the properties of UHPC, showing that all conditions of CB in UHPC resulted in improved mechanical properties and reduced autogenous shrinkage. The prewetting of CB and adding IC water during mixing of dry CB had similar effects on the performance improvement of UHPC.

Mechanical, environmental and economic performance of sustainable Grade 45 concrete with ultrahigh-volume Limestone-Calcined Clay (LCC)

Jing Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of low-grade calcined clay mixed with limestone powder (LCC) in concrete, particularly focusing on ultrahigh-volume LCC (UHV-LCC) in Grade 45 structural concrete. The study found that, with the appropriate water/binder ratio, UHV-LCC concrete can achieve high compressive strength while reducing embodied carbon emissions. By evaluating mechanical, environmental, and economic performance, the study demonstrates the importance of selecting the right proportion of LCC in concrete mix design for sustainability.

Utilization of granite sludge for production of cordierite ceramics by direct coagulation casting

H. E. H. Sadek et al.

Summary: The attempt to produce cordierite ceramics from granite sludge waste, talc and alumina through direct coagulation casting process showed that pre-heating alumina and talc at 1350 degrees C enhanced the formation of cordierite and spinel. Increasing the sintering temperature decreased porosity and increased compressive strength of the sintered specimens. The dielectric constant values ranged from 4.5 to 5.89 while the dielectric loss values varied between 2 x 10-3 and 7 x 10-3 at room temperature.

Shear strength and life cycle assessment of volcanic ash-based geopolymer and cement stabilized soil: A comparative study

Pooria Ghadir et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of using volcanic ash-based geopolymer as an alternative soil stabilizer to cement by comparing their shear strength behavior and life cycle assessment. The results showed that increasing binder content changes the structure of clayey soil through aggregation, thus improving the shear resistance.

Effect of Alkali Activators on Loess Geopolymer: Potential Waterproof Repair Material

Jean-Baptiste Mawule Dassekpo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solutions on the properties of loess geopolymer and its application in ceramic tile repairs. The experiment demonstrated that the mixture of NaOH and Na2SiO3 not only reduced pores in the loess-based geopolymer matrix but also provided suitable mechanical behavior, adhesion, and durability for filling ceramic tile gaps.
