Fracture behavior of a sustainable material: Recycled concrete with waste crumb rubber subjected to elevated temperatures

Yunchao Tang et al.

Summary: The research indicates that the impact of rubber particles on the unstable fracture toughness is greater than that on the initial cracking toughness of RAC after exposure to high temperatures. However, the enhanced effect of rubber on the fracture resistance decreases after subjecting it to high-temperature treatment due to the softening and eventual decomposition of rubber. Therefore, a rubber content of more than 4% is not recommended to avoid drawbacks introduced by rubber, considering the mechanical and fracture performance of RRAC.

Compressive behavior of compound concrete containing demolished concrete lumps and recycled aggregate concrete

Si-Min Jian et al.

Summary: The study suggests that reusing coarsely crushed demolished concrete lumps (DCLs) and recycled coarse aggregates (RAs) simultaneously in recycled lump/aggregate concrete (RLAC) can significantly increase the total waste content compared to recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). It was found that even when the total waste content in RLAC reaches 54.6%, satisfactory compressive strength can still be achieved. However, the compressive strength of RLAC containing 100% RA replacement ratio is much lower compared to RAC.

The effect of graphite and slag on electrical and mechanical properties of electrically conductive cementitious composites

Junbo Sun et al.

Summary: Electrically conductive cementitious composites (ECCCs) have become a significant research interest in structural health monitoring. The use of graphite in ECCCs can significantly improve their electrical performance, however, with unsatisfactory friction resistance because of the graphite's smooth microsurfaces. Slag can be incorporated with graphites into ECCCs to achieve good performance in both of mechanical resistance and electrical conductivity.
