Qiang Feng et al.

Summary: The study found that with an increasing number of freeze-thaw cycles, the elastic modulus, peak strength and wave velocity of yellow sandstones gradually decrease, while the peak strain and porosity increase. An energy evolution law with different freeze-thaw cycles was analyzed, a freeze-thaw damage model was established, and a functional relationship between mesoscopic parameters and freeze-thaw cycles was formulated.

Axial performance of seawater sea-sand concrete columns reinforced with basalt fibre-reinforced polymer bars under concentric compressive load

Zhe Xiong et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bar reinforced seawater sea-sand concrete (SSSC) columns under axial compression. The study investigates the failure modes, load-axial deformation curves, lateral deformation distributions, strains in BFRP bars and SSSC, initial axial stiffness, ultimate loads, and ductility of these column specimens. Factors such as tie spacing, concrete strength, reinforcement ratio, and slenderness ratio were analyzed for their impact on the behavior of the columns. The results show that the ultimate capacity of the columns is mainly controlled by the compressive strength of the concrete, and the utilization of the BFRP strength is not fully realized.

Axial compressive behavior of GFRP tube confined seawater coral aggregate concrete reinforced with epoxy-coated bars

Jingwei Ying et al.

Summary: The mechanical behavior of GSCACESB under axial compression was systematically studied, with considerations of concrete type, GFRP tube thickness, and reinforcement ratio. Test results showed that the bearing capacity of GSCACESB decreased compared to GCOC, but increased with tube thickness and reinforcement ratios. The load-deformation curve of GSCACESB was divided into elastic-plastic and hardening stages, with higher reinforcement ratios leading to smaller curve curvature.

Advances on properties of fiber reinforced recycled aggregate concrete: Experiments and models

Jing Xie et al.

Summary: Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) has become a good alternative to natural aggregate concrete (NAC) due to increased sustainability focus, but has drawbacks such as lower strength and higher water absorption compared to NAC. Adding fibers to RAC can improve mechanical properties and durability, with steel fibers showing the best enhancement in mechanical properties. Basalt fibers offer better sustainability. This study aims to inform further research on using fibers to enhance RAC properties.

Bond behavior between BFRP bar and basalt fiber reinforced seawater sea-sand recycled aggregate concrete

Junzu Sun et al.

Summary: The combination use of BF, seawater, sea-sand and RCA can reduce the adverse effects of RCA on the mechanical property of concrete. The addition of BF can effectively improve the pore structure of concrete matrix, especially the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The usage of RCA reduces the bond strength between BFRP bar and RAC, while the usage of seawater and sea-sand has little effect on the bond-slip constitutive relation.

Du Pan et al.

Summary: Researchers conducted a comprehensive study on the mechanical and microstructural properties of seawater and sea sand concrete, finding that the use of seawater and sea sand can enhance the early age compressive strength but slightly decrease the 28 days strength. Additionally, the flexural strength of seawater and sea sand concrete, as well as sea sand concrete, has been improved at 28 days compared to ordinary concrete. The dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete made with seawater and sea sand or sea sand has been significantly enhanced, especially at early age.
