Experimental investigation on the mechanical behavior of hybrid steel-polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete under conventional triaxial cyclic compression

Kuan Meng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical behavior of HFRC under conventional triaxial compression, revealing that the incorporation of hybrid fibers can greatly enhance the mechanical properties of concrete, with the effect of confinement outweighing the restriction of damage degradation by fibers. The addition of steel fibers increases the strength of HFRC, while polypropylene fibers mainly improve plastic behavior at a slight expense of compressive strength. The stiffness deterioration of HFRC is restrained by applying confinement and adding fibers, with fiber effects more pronounced under low confinement levels.
