Mathematical Models of Meal Amount and Timing Variability With Implementation in the Type-1 Diabetes Patient Decision Simulator

Summary: In this study, a mathematical description of meal carbohydrates amount and timing was developed to improve the meal generation module in the T1D Patient Decision Simulator. Data from 32 T1D subjects were used to fit univariate probability density function models for meal characteristics, and a support vector machine classifier was developed to predict snack occurrence. The resulting models were found to accurately describe real data and can enhance the realism of in-silico clinical trials in T1D research.
