High performance carbon nanotube/polymer composite fibers and water-driven actuators

Yuping Sun et al.

Summary: The use of acid-assisted in situ and scalable polymer infiltration method to prepare CNT/PVA composite fibers has led to high mechanical strength and electrical conductivity. Uniformly twisted helical CNT/PVA fibers have been created to significantly increase tensile strains while retaining reasonable strengths, enabling applications such as water-driven actuators.

Triple and Two-Way Reversible Shape Memory Polymer Networks with Body Temperature and Water Responsiveness

Ruixue Liang et al.

Summary: Through thiol-ene chemistry, shape memory polymers (SMPs) based on hydrophobic polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) and hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) oligomers were successfully fabricated, showing a body temperature-triggered two-way shape memory effect and a body temperature- and water-triggered one-way triple shape memory effect. These features make the polymers promising for biomedical applications, as demonstrated by their application as a new type of esophageal stent with adjustable and self-expandable properties, as well as the ability to release drugs.

Thermal/Near-Infrared Light Dual-Responsive Reversible Two-Way Shape Memory cEVA/2D-MoO2 Composite for Multifunctional Applications

Chaobo Hao et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite material with light-induced reversible two-way shape memory effect was successfully prepared by doping 2D-MoO2 into EVA networks. The composite demonstrated remarkable light-induced reversible 2W-SME, making it suitable for applications in actuators and soft robots. The results show that the composite has promising potential for use in light-driven devices and machines.

Low-Voltage Actuator with Bilayer Structure for Various Biomimetic Locomotions

Wen-Jin Sun et al.

Summary: This study presents a low-voltage actuator fabricated through spraying and hot pressing, utilizing a high-density conductive network of carbon nanotubes enriched in the surface layer of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA). The bilayer CNT/EVA actuator exhibits reversible transformation with over 10% deformation even after 100 cycles, requiring only 15V of applied voltage. This versatile strategy combines electrical properties and shape-memory effects, providing inspiration for the development of electrical soft actuators and biomimetic devices.
