High-Performance Structural Supercapacitors Based on Aligned Discontinuous Carbon Fiber Electrodes and Solid Polymer Electrolytes

Yanfang Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of aligned discontinuous carbon fiber dry prepregs as electrodes in structural supercapacitors (SSCs) with a solid polymer electrolyte, achieving high fiber-matrix interfacial bonding and significant improvements in both electrochemical and mechanical performance compared to SSCs based on woven carbon fiber fabric-based electrodes. The mechanical behavior was evaluated through quasi-static and cyclic flexural loading tests, while the excellent electrochemical stability was confirmed by capacitance retention of above 96% under galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling tests, providing valuable insights for future optimization of SSC performance.
