An experimental and modeling study of ammonia with enriched oxygen content and ammonia/hydrogen laminar flame speed at elevated pressure and temperature

Krishna Prasad Shrestha et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the laminar flame speeds of ammonia and ammonia-hydrogen blends under different temperature, pressure, and oxygen content conditions, and developed a new kinetic model for predicting the oxidation mechanisms, considering the formation and reduction of nitrogen oxides. The results showed that the laminar flame speed increases with increasing initial temperature, fuel hydrogen content, or oxidizer oxygen content, but decreases with increasing initial pressure. The proposed kinetic model predicts the same trends as experiments and highlights the importance of N2H2 formation under rich conditions.

Experimental investigation on ammonia combustion behavior in a spark-ignition engine by means of laminar and turbulent expanding flames

Charles Lhuillier et al.

Summary: The study aims to elucidate the combustion characteristics of ammonia blends under engine-relevant turbulent conditions, finding that the effects of hydrogen or methane enrichment observed in SI engines cannot be fully explained by the measured laminar burning velocities. The combustion regimes studied are at the boundary between thin and broken reaction zones, influenced by flame-turbulence interactions.

Comparative Effect of Ammonia Addition on the Laminar Burning Velocities of Methane, n-Heptane, and Iso-octane

Marco Lubrano Lavadera et al.

Summary: Experimental results showed that adding ammonia to methane, n-heptane, and iso-octane decreases the laminar burning velocity, and this reduction is not proportional to the ammonia mole fraction. Ammonia has a similar impact on the burning velocities of n-heptane and iso-octane, but slightly higher effect on methane. The reduction in burning velocity is due to synergistic thermal, kinetic, and indirect transport effects.

An experimental and kinetic modeling study on the laminar burning velocity of NH3+N2O+air flames

Xinlu Han et al.

Summary: In this study, the laminar burning velocities of NH3+N2O+air flames were measured experimentally, showing a linear relationship with the fraction of nitrous oxide in the oxidizer mixture. Comparison with recent NH3 mechanisms revealed that the models of Nakamura et al. and Stagni et al. performed the best. The authors' H/N/O kinetic mechanism was updated and showed improved agreement with experimental data and literature.

Updated yields of nitrogenated species in flames of ammonia/benzene via introducing an aniline sub-mechanism

Ibrahem S. Altarawneh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the production pathways of aniline from combustion of ammonia and benzene, showing that the anilino radical preferentially decomposes into iso-HNC and a cyclopentadienyl radical, generating N-analogous compounds. The newly constructed aniline sub-mechanism alters predicted concentrations of principal N species in NOx + benzene kinetic model, aiming to improve predictive performance of models addressing NOx and HCN emissions.
