Bio-inspired zwitterionic copolymers for antifouling surface and oil-water separation

Jingqi Niu et al.

Summary: Inspired by marine mussels, dopamine chemistry and zwitterionic structures were combined to design copolymers with both adhesion and antifouling properties, which can be applied in surface modification and oil-water separation. The copolymers show excellent resistance to protein adsorption and repelling oil attachment, with enhanced performance in water due to the hydrophilic surface.

Lubricin-Inspired Loop Zwitterionic Peptide for Fabrication of Superior Antifouling Surfaces

Chuanxi Li et al.

Summary: Zwitterionic peptides with loop-like structures exhibit better antifouling properties by resisting protein and bacteria adsorption, being more rigid compared to linear-like peptides, reducing interaction with foulants, improving hydrophilicity, and avoiding chain aggregation. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the conformation effect of zwitterionic peptides, which may contribute to the design of novel antifouling materials in various biomedical applications.

Synthesis and antifouling performance of tadpole-shaped poly(N-hydroxyethylacrylamide) coatings

Yanping Cao et al.

Summary: The tadpole-shaped PHEAA-modified surfaces exhibit better antifouling performance compared to linear copolymer precursor-modified surfaces due to the presence of cyclic PHEAA head chain segments in the tadpole-shaped PHEAA copolymer. The absence of interchain entanglements facilitates the formation of smoother and densely packed grafts, resulting in better antifouling properties.
