Experimental and theoretical analysis of simultaneous removal of methylene blue and tetracycline using boron nitride nanosheets as adsorbent

Raghubeer S. Bangari et al.

Summary: The adsorption behavior of boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) for the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye and tetracycline (TC) antibiotic from aqueous solution has been studied. The results show that BNNSs have the potential to simultaneously adsorb MB and TC, making them promising adsorbents for the removal of dyes and antibiotics from contaminated wastewater.

Adsorption behaviour of boron nitride nanosheets towards the positive, negative and the neutral antibiotics: Insights from first principle studies

Anshul Yadav et al.

Summary: In this study, the adsorption of three antibiotics, ampicillin, ciprofloxacin, and cephalosporin, on boron nitride nanosheets was investigated using density functional theory. The results showed that cephalosporin had the strongest interaction with boron nitride nanosheets, indicating its favorable adsorption. This study demonstrated the potential application of boron nitride nanosheets as an effective adsorbent for removing negatively charged antibiotics from water streams.

Marzieh Miar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of electron-releasing and electron-withdrawing groups at para positions on the molecular structure of synthesized compounds in selected solvents and in the gas phase. Results show that intramolecular interactions between substituents and the electron donor-acceptor centers of the thiazole ring influence the relative stability of the compounds. Charge-transfer possibilities within the molecules are revealed through dipole moment values and energy gaps between occupied and unoccupied molecular orbitals.

Novel MIL101(Fe) impregnated poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) mixed matrix membranes for dye removal from textile industry wastewater

Anshul Yadav et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential of MIL101(Fe) impregnated PVDF-HFP mixed matrix membranes in DCMD technology for dye removal from textile industry wastewater was explored. The permeate flux exponentially increased with feed temperature, while dye rejection decreased with temperature. A decrease in boundary layer thickness resulted in a linear increase in flux with flow rate.

Palladium-Functionalized Graphene for Hydrogen Sensing Performance: Theoretical Studies

Vinay Kishnani et al.

Summary: The adsorption characteristics of H-2 molecules on Pd-doped and Pd-decorated graphene were investigated using density functional theory calculations. The HOMO-LUMO gap decreases for both structures when adsorbed with H-2, leading to increased electrical conductivity. Pd-decorated graphene exhibited better H-2 gas sensing capabilities compared to Pd-doped graphene.

Highly efficient methyl orange adsorption by UV-012, a new crystalline Co(ii) MOF

Daniel J. Ramirez et al.

Summary: This study presents three scientific contributions: the crystal structure of a new metal organic framework (UV-012), the evaluation of its dye adsorption capabilities, and a new mechanism explaining its selective anionic dye adsorption. Results show that UV-012 exhibits exceptional adsorption capacity for anionic dyes, such as methyl orange, attributed to strong electrostatic interactions between the MOF structure and the dye molecules. Selectivity towards anionic dyes over cationic dyes was observed, affirming the potential of UV-012 as an effective adsorbent for dye removal.

Predicting the adsorption of organic pollutants on boron nitride nanosheets via in silico techniques: DFT computations and QSAR modeling

Ya Wang et al.

Summary: Investigating the adsorption of organic pollutants onto boron nitride nanosheets using DFT computations and QSAR models showed that boron nitride nanosheets exhibit stronger adsorption capability compared to graphene. Van der Waals interactions dominate in gaseous adsorption, while van der Waals and hydrophobic interactions are the main driving forces in aqueous adsorption. In silico QSAR models can serve as efficient tools for predicting log K values for organic pollutants adsorbed onto boron nitride nanomaterials.

High aspect ZnO nanorod growth over electrodeposited tubes for photocatalytic degradation of EtBr dye

Hrudaya Jyoti Biswal et al.

Summary: This work synthesized vertically grown rod type ZnO nanostructures on metallic nickel tube films using the cost-effective process of electroforming. The use of tubular metal substrates for the growth of ZnO nanorods showed advantages for photocatalytic degradation of EtBr dye. XRD and FESEM were used to characterize the nickel tubes with ZnO nanorods, and the photocatalytic efficacy was revealed through comprehensive mineralization of the dye within 150 min. The study also included DFT analysis to investigate the adsorption properties of EtBr on ZnO nanorods and the growth of nanorods on electroformed Ni tubes.
