Modelling the adsorption of proteins to nanoparticles at the solid-liquid interface

Mikhail Soloviev et al.

Summary: A new geometrical model was developed to study the adsorption of proteins on nanoparticles, and findings showed a 32% surface occupancy of RBD on silica nanoparticles with 25% of RBD secondary structures undergoing conformational changes. These findings contribute to understanding protein-surface interactions and controlling the spread of SARS-CoV-2 through contaminated objects.

Recent advances in cellulose supported metal nanoparticles as green and sustainable catalysis for organic synthesis

Samir Kamel et al.

Summary: Organic reactions typically involve catalysts and solvents that can be harmful to the environment, but recent advancements in science and technology have led to a shift towards eco-friendly and sustainable resources, with nanocatalysis emerging as a promising field. Metal nanoparticles supported by cellulose offer high reactivity and productivity, enabling green and sustainable chemical transformations. Control over the characteristics of metal nanoparticles, such as structural morphology and particle size, is crucial for optimizing their catalytic activity.

Intermolecular Interactions at the Silica-Liquid Interface Modulate the Fermi Resonance Coupling in Surface Methanol

Thomas T. Bui et al.

Summary: The study found that at the silica/liquid interface, the Fermi resonance of methanol is effectively modulated by solvation with acetonitrile. As the concentration of methanol decreases, both the Fermi resonance coupling coefficient W and the experimental intensity ratio R show an increasing trend.

A Brief Overview of Recent Progress in Porous Silica as Catalyst Supports

Preeti S. Shinde et al.

Summary: Porous silica particles serve as catalyst supports in heterogeneous catalysis, offering ordered porosity, high surface area, and good chemical stability for better mass transfer properties and uniform distribution of metal catalysts. They demonstrate high activity, low metal leaching, and ease in recycling, making them attractive materials for catalytic applications. Current research focuses on studying various chemical reactions catalyzed by catalysts loaded or embedded in porous silica supports.
