Halloysite nanotubes as nanoreactors for heterogeneous micellar catalysis

Lorenzo Lisuzzo et al.

Summary: The functionalization of halloysite with sodium alkylsulphates generated hydrophobic microdomains with enhanced microviscosity, leading to larger enhancements on the rate constant of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. This study shows the potential of surfactant/halloysite hybrids as efficient and reusable nanocatalysts based on their unique microviscosity and polarity properties.

Development of halloysite nanotube-based hydrogel with colorimetric H2O2-responsive character

Boyan Tang et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide is a significant diagnostic marker in organisms, and producing a colorimetric H2O2-responsive smart material is desired but challenging. A colorimetric H2O2-responsive hydrogel was prepared with a phenolphthalein-based cross-linking agent, and the addition of halloysite improved mechanical properties and reduced initial burst release. The drug release behavior showed typical H2O2-responsive characteristics, and the colorimetric feature can estimate H2O2 levels and drug release rates.

Influence of silane functionalized nanoclay on the barrier, mechanical and hydrophobic properties by clay nanocomposite films in an aggressive chloride medium

J. Raja Beryl et al.

Summary: The surface modification of silica clay with a silane coupling agent improves the compatibility with epoxy polymer matrix and enhances the anticorrosion potential of coatings on mild steel. Various techniques were utilized to analyze the structural, morphological, and thermal properties of the functionalized clay nanoparticles in the epoxy resin. The modified clay-epoxy nanocomposite shows improved dispersion, mechanical properties, and water resistance, with all modified coatings exhibiting higher barrier resistance and superior corrosion resistance compared to pure epoxy coating.
