Sporadic outbreaks of healthcare-associated COVID-19 infection in a highly-vaccinated inpatient population during a community outbreak of the B.1.617.2 variant: The role of enhanced infection-prevention measures

Liang En Wee et al.

Summary: Sporadic clusters of COVID-19 infection occurred in a highly vaccinated health care workers and patient population, despite enhanced infection-prevention measures. The unvaccinated and immunocompromised individuals remain at risk and should receive enhanced surveillance.

Rapid Control of Hospital-Based Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Omicron Clusters Through Daily Testing and Universal Use of N95 Respirators

Meghan A. Baker et al.

Summary: Despite universal masking, admission testing, and symptom screening, the highly contagious Omicron variant of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 increases the risk for hospital-acquired transmission. This study reports significant increases in hospital-onset infections and unit-based clusters. However, the implementation of universal N95 respirators and daily testing effectively controlled the clusters. The broader use of these strategies may prevent nosocomial transmissions.

The Risk of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Transmission from Patients With Undiagnosed Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to Roommates in a Large Academic Medical Center

Abraar Karan et al.

Summary: This study assessed the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus between patients in shared rooms in an academic hospital. The results showed that out of 11,290 patients, 25 tested positive. Among 31 roommates exposed to the virus, 12 tested positive within 14 days. The study also found an association between transmission and PCR cycle thresholds <= 21.
