Safety of anti-inflammatory drugs in children with asthma

Fernando Maria de Benedictis et al.

Summary: The purpose of the review was to examine the main adverse events induced by anti-inflammatory drugs in children with asthma and discuss preventive or mitigative actions. Understanding the pharmaceutical properties and delivery systems of different ICS is essential for proper interpretation of safety studies. It is crucial for clinicians to be aware of the association between montelukast use and neuropsychiatric events and adjust their prescribing practices accordingly.

Safety of As-Needed Budesonide-Formoterol in Mild Asthma: Data from the Two Phase III SYGMA Studies

J. Mark FitzGerald et al.

Summary: The study analyzed data from the SYGMA trials to evaluate the safety of as-needed budesonide-formoterol compared to terbutaline and maintenance budesonide in treating mild asthma. Results showed that as-needed budesonide-formoterol was well-tolerated and had a safety profile similar to that of daily budesonide, with no new safety signals identified.

Inhaled corticosteroids and risk of influenza in patients with asthma: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Hong Chen et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis showed that the use of ICS does not increase the risk of influenza in patients with asthma. Different doses and types of ICS treatment yielded consistent results, and age did not affect the risk of influenza with ICS use.
