Differences in patient and physician perspectives on pharmaceutical therapy and renal denervation for the management of hypertension

Roland E. Schmieder et al.

Summary: The study revealed a discrepancy between patient and physician attitudes towards renal denervation for hypertension, with doctors more inclined to recommend the procedure while patients' preferences were influenced by their perceptions of hypertension and medication side effects.

Range and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Hypertension

Nayyra Fatani et al.

Summary: The study found an independent association between time in systolic blood pressure target range and major adverse cardiovascular events among adults with hypertension. Each 1-SD increase in time in target range was significantly associated with a decreased risk of first major adverse cardiovascular event.

Changes in Plasma Renin Activity After Renal Artery Sympathetic Denervation

Felix Mahfoud et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of renal denervation (RDN) on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in blood pressure regulation. Results showed that plasma renin activity and aldosterone levels significantly decreased compared to baseline in RDN patients at 3 months, with higher baseline PRA levels associated with a more significant reduction in blood pressure.

Ultrasound renal denervation for hypertension resistant to a triple medication pill (RADIANCE-HTN TRIO): a randomised, multicentre, single-blind, sham-controlled trial

Michel Azizi et al.

Summary: Renal denervation through ultrasound treatment shows promising results in reducing blood pressure for patients with resistant hypertension, with greater effectiveness compared to a sham procedure within 2 months and similar safety outcomes. This may provide an alternative approach for patients with resistant hypertension to avoid adding more antihypertensive medications.

Summary: This analysis evaluated the impact of baseline heart rate on blood pressure reduction after renal denervation. The results showed a greater reduction in blood pressure at 3 months post renal denervation for patients with baseline heart rate >= 70 beats/min.

Weili Zhang et al.

Summary: In 8511 Chinese patients aged 60 to 80 with hypertension, intensive treatment with a systolic blood-pressure target of 110 to <130 mm Hg resulted in a lower incidence of cardiovascular events compared to standard treatment with a target of 130 to <150 mm Hg. Except for a higher incidence of hypotension, the two groups had similar rates of adverse events.

Prioritised endpoints for device-based hypertension trials: the win ratio methodology

David E. Kandzari et al.

Summary: By analyzing the data from the SPYRAL HTN-ON MED pilot study, a win ratio analysis was conducted to determine the effectiveness of RDN treatment in hypertensive patients. Using a prioritised hierarchical endpoint with 24-hour mean ambulatory blood pressure, office blood pressure, and medication burden, RDN was found to be the winner in a significantly higher number of pairs compared to the loser, with a win ratio of 2.78 and a net benefit statistic of 0.42.
