Broadband wave plate based on one-dimensional photonic crystal containing negative-zero-positive index metamaterials

Xinglin Wang et al.

Summary: The study examined the spectra, phase shifts, and phase difference of TE and TM waves reflecting from a one-dimensional photonic crystal containing negative-zero-positive index metamaterials. It was found that there exist zero-gap and Dirac point band gaps that can be adjusted by various factors. The reflection phase shifts of TE and TM waves within the gaps change smoothly with frequency, while the phase differences can remain constant over a wide frequency range and be adjusted conveniently by certain parameters.

Mid-infrared Biosensor Based on Bloch Surface Mode Excitation in Truncated One-Dimensional Ternary Photonic Crystal Under Kretschmann Configuration

Mahendra Kumar et al.

Summary: The theoretical investigation into mid-infrared sensitive biosensors constructed from truncated one-dimensional ternary photonic crystals on a prism base under Kretschmann configuration coupling showed control over resonance wavelength for Bloch surface modes excited by transverse magnetic polarized electromagnetic waves. The study used the transfer matrix method to compute band structures and reflection spectra and demonstrated that variations in design parameters such as thickness of the truncation layer and refractive index of the sensing medium can effectively control resonance wavelengths. The sensitivity of the sensor to changes in dc and dt values was found to be on the order of 10-3 magnitude.

Ultrasensitive Optical Temperature Transducers Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance Enhanced Composited Goos-Hanchen and Imbert-Fedorov Shifts

Yi Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the temperature-dependent composite Goos-Hanchen and Imbert-Fedorov shifts for a light beam reflected from a lossy surface. The results demonstrate the significant enhancement of spatial and angular shifts around the resonant angle, leading to ultrahigh temperature sensitivities. The importance of angular shift effect in achieving ultrahigh sensitivity is highlighted in the research, providing guidance for the design of sensors based on composite shifts.

Broadband wide-angle multilayer absorber based on a broadband omnidirectional optical Tamm state

Feng Wu et al.

Summary: A broadband omnidirectional optical Tamm state (OTS) has been achieved by utilizing a heterostructure composed of a chromium layer and a one-dimensional photonic crystal containing hyperbolic metamaterials, enabling broadband wide-angle absorption from 1612 nm to 2335 nm and incident angles from 0 degrees to 70 degrees with an absorption bandwidth of 723 nm. This lithography-free structure can be easily fabricated using current deposition techniques and has potential applications in various devices.

Giant Goos-Hanchen Shift Generated by the One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Doped With Black Phosphorus

Ming-Yu Mao et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel one-dimensional photonic crystals using two-dimensional hyperbolic material black phosphorus to generate huge lateral shifts known as Goos-Hänchen shifts. The simulated results show that the proposed photonic crystals can create giant negative and positive GH shifts and produce adjustable changes under different conditions. The use of 2-D hyperbolic material in 1-D PCs might provide a new theoretical possibility to produce giant GH shifts.
