In-situ formation of uniform V2O5 nanocuboid from V2C MXene as electrodes for capacitive deionization with higher structural stability and ion diffusion ability

Baojun Liu et al.

Summary: "The study demonstrates that the one-dimensional V2O5 with nanocuboid structure prepared from MXenes(V2C) precursor shows high adsorption capacity and fast ion diffusion ability, achieving a salt adsorption capacity of 55.2 mg NaCl g(-1) V2O5. The high conductivity and low charge transfer resistance of V2O5 electrode lead to reduced energy loss during desalination, resulting in a low energy consumption of 0.27 kWh kg(1)-NaCl. V2O5 is considered as a promising electrode material for practical CDI application in the future."

Novel heteroatom sulfur porphyrin organic polymer as a metal-free electrocatalyst for acidic oxygen reduction reaction

Wei Yan et al.

Summary: The rational design of highly reactive electronic structure for active sites is essential for developing ORR catalysts. The newly developed ethynyl-linked sulfur-containing porphyrin organic polymer (S-POP) shows superior ORR performance in acidic conditions, with intrinsic porous structures and easily accessible active sites. By replacing pyrrole N with S atoms, S-POP exhibits higher ORR activity than conventional porphyrin organic polymer (POP), attributed to the redistribution and reduction of charge density on aza N which decreases overpotential. This work provides novel guidance for designing and modifying metal-free ORR electrocatalysts with clear electronic structure as active sites.

Eco-friendly utilization of sawdust: Ionic liquid-modified biochar for enhanced Li+ storage of TiO2

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: Forestry logging and wood processing in China generate significant amounts of sawdust annually, which can be utilized to produce biochar tailored for lithium-ion battery anodes. Constructing ionic liquid-coupled biochar/TiO2 interfaces enhances the structure and performance of TiO2/C composites, resulting in high reversible specific capacities and long-term cyclic stability of the electrodes. The chemical bonds at the interfaces facilitate fast Li+/electron transport, contributing to the excellent performance of the TiO2/C electrodes.
