Effective defluoridation of industrial wastewater by using acid modified alumina in fixed-bed adsorption column: Experimental and breakthrough curves analysis

Usha Kumari et al.

Summary: The defluoridation performance of a simple and efficient adsorbent (SAA), developed by H2SO4 treatment of alumina, was explored in fixed-bed adsorption column (FBAC). The SAA demonstrated superior performance compared to unmodified alumina, especially in conditions of increased bed depth, reduced flow rate, and lower fluoride concentration. Furthermore, the SAA showed successful treatment of industrial effluent and reusability for up to four cycles, indicating its suitability for continuous operation in treating fluoride contaminated industrial wastewater or groundwater.

Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of sulfamethoxazole adsorption onto sugarcane bagasse in a fixed-bed column

Diego Juela et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamic behavior of sulfamethoxazole adsorption on sugarcane bagasse was studied and compared using analytical models and a theoretical mechanistic model. The Log-Gompertz model showed the best agreement with experimental data, while the mechanistic model accurately predicted breakthrough curves and estimated relevant parameters. Increasing global mass transfer coefficient (K-i) resulted in a faster adsorption rate, and high axial dispersion coefficient (D-z) values led to lower adsorption capacities of the adsorbent, highlighting the importance of axial dispersion in sulfamethoxazole adsorption on sugarcane bagasse.

Cellulose-derived polyols as high-capacity adsorbents for rapid boron and organic pollutants removal from water

Mei Hong et al.

Summary: This study introduces cellulose-derived polyols as high-performance adsorbents for rapid removal of boron and organic pollutants from water, with impressive adsorption capacity and rate surpassing previously reported materials. The cellulose-derived polyols also show high removal efficiencies towards certain organic pollutants within minutes, making them a promising option for water purification.

Dynamic adsorption models and artificial neural network prediction of mercury adsorption by a dendrimer-grafted polyacrylonitrile fiber in fixed-bed column

Chao Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a dendrimer-grafted polyacrylonitrile fiber (PANF-TU) was successfully synthesized and characterized for mercury removal. The adsorption feasibility was thoroughly studied through batch and dynamic tests, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 227 mg g-1. The study revealed that PANF-TU exhibited promising adsorption performance and could be a potential material for the remediation of Hg2+ polluted aqueous systems.

Recent advances in adsorption and coagulation for boron removal from wastewater: A comprehensive review

Jui-Yen Lin et al.

Summary: The anthropogenic emission of boron to rivers has posed a serious threat to water quality and ecosystems, but can be effectively removed through adsorption and coagulation methods. Boron sources mainly include coal-fired and geothermal power plants, as well as oil/gas extraction activities. Various types of adsorbents and coagulants, reaction mechanisms, progress in the past 5 years, and future research prospects and improvements have been discussed comprehensively in this review.

Ali Ansari et al.

Summary: This study investigated the continuous adsorption of nitrate using an amine-rich polymer composite adsorbent in a fixed-bed column, finding that the adsorption capacity was influenced by flow rate, influent concentration, and bed height. The highest adsorption capacity was achieved at the lowest flow rate and highest influent concentration and bed height.

Generalized decay and artificial neural network models for fixed-Bed phenolic compounds adsorption onto activated date palm biochar

M. A. Dalhat et al.

Summary: Batch adsorption of phenolic compounds on different types of biochars has been widely studied, but research on ortho-cresol and phenol in fixed-bed columns is limited. This study used artificial neural network (ANN) modeling to predict adsorption behavior, with initial concentration identified as the most influencial parameter. Increasing flow rate resulted in different impacts on adsorbate effluent concentration, while higher bed depth had a slight linear decline effect.

Teo Ming Ting et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of boron from real industrial wastewater containing high concentration of ammonia using a fibrous adsorbent bearing glucamine groups obtained by green method. The obtained adsorbent was tested for adsorption performance in comparison with a synthetic aqueous solution in a fixed bed-column. The results showed that the experimental breakthrough curves were best fitted by the Modified Dose-Response (MDR) model.
