Effect of oral administration of a mixture of pyrethroids at doses relevant to human exposure on the general and male reproductive physiology in the rat

Anandha Rao Ravula et al.

Summary: Studies on unintentional intake of pyrethroid pesticides similar to actual human exposure settings are rare. Exposure to low and high doses of pyrethroid mixture for 15 months resulted in abnormal lipid profile, liver function, and antioxidant enzyme activities, as well as damage to anatomical architecture in various tissues. This exposure also led to decreased sperm count, enzyme activities, impaired capacitation and acrosome reaction, and perturbations in gene expression related to male gamete production.

Integration of sperm ncRNA-directed DNA methylation and DNA methylation-directed histone retention in epigenetic transgenerational inheritance

Daniel Beck et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that environmentally induced epigenetic inheritance of pathology and phenotypic variation can be transmitted through epigenetic alterations in sperm and/or eggs to subsequent generations, with overlapping of different epigenetic processes at chromosomal locations, suggesting potential roles of RNA-directed DNA methylation and DNA methylation-directed histone retention in the inheritance process.

Summary: This study conducted an umbrella review to summarize epidemiological evidence on environmental risk factors, finding 197 associations between 69 environmental exposures and 83 diseases and death causes. It identified 65 environmental exposures as risk factors and 4 environmental protective factors, with findings in study design and population distribution.

Key proteins of proteome underlying sperm malformation of rats exposed to low fenvalerate doses are highly related to P53

Shaoping Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that low doses of Fen can induce sperm malformations in rats, affect the activity of androgen, and may be related to P53-associated proteins involved in morphogenesis or spermatogenesis.

PKCα mediated by the PI3K/Akt-FOXA1 cascade facilitates cypermethrin-induced hyperthyroidism

Mei Ha et al.

Summary: The study found that cypermethrin (CYP) can stimulate thyroid hormone (TH) biosynthesis and disrupt thyroid function. Protein kinase C alpha (PKC alpha) plays a crucial role in CYP-induced hyperthyroidism.

Trans-ovo permethrin exposure affects growth, brain morphology and cardiac development in quail

Grace H. Curtis et al.

Summary: Permethrin, a commonly used pesticide in poultry agriculture, has been found to have adverse effects on embryonic development in birds, causing microcephaly and abnormalities in heart development. Further studies are needed to examine the long-term effects of Permethrin on offspring health and to monitor its efficacy on wild bird populations beyond hatching.

Developmental exposure to chlordecone induces transgenerational effects in somatic prostate tissue which are associated with epigenetic histone trimethylation changes

Louis Legoff et al.

Summary: The study investigated the transgenerational effects of chlordecone on murine prostate tissue. Results showed the presence of prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia in male offspring exposed to CD, with differential gene expressions in prostates of different generations linked to tumor-related biological processes. CD exposure led to increased expression of Hox genes in the prostate, significant upregulation of genes involved in testosterone synthesis, and epigenetic changes.

Summary: The study assessed the relationship between urinary pesticide metabolites and hormone concentrations in adolescent males, revealing significant associations and interactions with xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes. Associations between pesticide metabolites and altered thyroid and reproductive hormones were observed, highlighting the potential impact of gene-environment interactions on individual susceptibility to pesticides and adverse health effects.

Bifenthrin reduces pregnancy potential via induction of oxidative stress in porcine trophectoderm and uterine luminal epithelial cells

Wonhyoung Park et al.

Summary: Research results indicate that bifenthrin inhibits cell proliferation and viability, induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in both porcine trophectoderm and uterine luminal epithelial cells. Bifenthrin also damages mitochondria, induces reactive oxygen species production, leading to endoplasmic reticulum stress and calcium dysregulation in the cells. Finally, bifenthrin alters MAPK/PI3K signaling pathway and expression of pregnancy-related genes.
