Ni single atoms anchored on nitrogen-doped graphene as H2-Evolution cocatalyst of SrTiO3(Al)/CoOx for photocatalytic overall water splitting

Yuxiang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni single atoms anchored on nitrogen-doped graphene were used as hydrogen evolution cocatalysts for SrTiO3(Al)/CoOx photocatalyst, replacing noble metals. The Ti-O-C bonds improved the efficiency of photogenerated charge transfer and accelerated the surface hydrogen evolution rate, leading to remarkable enhancement in overall water splitting activity.

Interface-engineered silicon photocathodes with a NiCoP catalyst-modified TiO2 nanorod array outlayer for photoelectrochemical hydrogen production in alkaline solution

Xuran Sun et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the performance of a Si-based composite photocathode and its application in water splitting. The photocathode is modified with N-doped graphene and TiO2 nanorods, and loaded with Ni/Co phosphide catalyst to enhance its photoelectrochemical properties. The results show that the TiO2 nanorod array significantly improves the PEC activity, while the surface-loaded NiCoP catalyst enhances charge transfer efficiency and boosts HER kinetics.

Steering Hole Transfer from the Light Absorber to Oxygen Evolution Sites for Photocatalytic Overall Water Splitting

Shuquan Huang et al.

Summary: By controlling the hole transfer kinetics through embedding reduced graphene oxide at the interface of the light absorber and oxygen evolution cocatalysts, the authors were able to significantly improve the efficiency of overall water splitting, achieving higher gas evolution rates and excellent stability. This work demonstrates the feasibility of tuning the oxygen evolution dynamics for efficient photocatalysis.

Nitrogen doped graphene quantum dots as a cocatalyst of SrTiO3(Al)/CoOx for photocatalytic overall water splitting

Yuxiang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots were prepared and applied as a cocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction of SrTiO3(Al)/CoOx, achieving high activity in overall water splitting with H-2 evolution rate of 18.8 μmol h(-1) and O-2 evolution rate of 9.0 μmol h(-1). The spatial separation of photogenerated electrons and holes was facilitated by dispersing NGQDs and CoOx on different crystal facets of octagonal SrTiO3(Al), while the strong interaction between NGQDs and SrTiO3(Al) through Ti-O-C chemical bonds enhanced charge transfer and separation, with pyrrole N species within NGQD networks acting as active sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction.
