Impact of flow feedback on bubble generation in T-junction microchannels under pressure-driven condition

Yan Pang et al.

Summary: Experimental study was conducted on bubble size in T-junction microchannels under pressure-driven conditions, showing that bubble length increases with flow rate and driving pressure. Different downstream channel types directly influence bubble size by affecting resistance, with a nonlinear relationship observed between them. Adjustment of flow rate at downstream provides feedback to bubble generation in the double T-junction channel.

Flow boiling in microchannels enhanced by parallel microgrooves fabricated on the bottom surfaces

Congcong Ren et al.

Summary: This study focuses on enhancing flow boiling performance in microchannels without using inlet restrictors, by fabricating parallel microgrooves on the bottom surface of the channels. The microgrooves effectively manage two-phase flow instabilities and enable high-frequency rewetting, enhancing heat transfer rates and delaying critical heat flux conditions. Through visualization studies, it was found that the microgrooves can significantly improve thin film evaporation and overall heat transfer coefficients in the microchannels.

Geometric Effect on Gas-Liquid Bubbly Flow in Capillary-Embedded T-Junction Microchannels

Yuchao Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated gas-liquid bubbly flows in T-junction microdevices with different microstructures and found that the gas injector diameter has a significant influence on bubble dispersion. When the gas injector diameter is small and the gas-phase flow rate is lower than the liquid-phase flow rate, bubbly microflows are easily formed. Furthermore, designing a step T-junction microchannel with a small capillary and a narrow slit can improve bubble generation ability.

Numerical investigations on flow boiling heat transfer of ammonia water binary solution (NH3/H2O) in a horizontal microchannel

Ren Yang et al.

Summary: The flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of NH3/H2O mixture in a microchannel were studied using CFD method. The results showed that there is an optimal inlet NH3 concentration for maintaining a certain level of heat dissipation rate, and increasing the inlet NH3 concentration beyond this threshold no longer benefits the heat dissipation process. Additionally, no local dry-outs were found in the microchannel length under all simulation conditions, suggesting that NH3/H2O mixture could be a good alternative coolant for electronic components.

Experimental investigation into unstable two phase flow phenomena during flow boiling in multi-microchannels

Yuanzheng Lv et al.

Summary: Experiments were conducted in two parallel rectangular multi-microchannels using HFE-7100 for flow boiling, revealing significant differences in heat flux and pressure drop under different aspect ratios, with the minimum heat flux decreasing as the aspect ratio decreases. The physical mechanisms of unstable vapor liquid two phase phenomena were analyzed based on a simplified mathematical model, suggesting that a wide flat regime in the hydrodynamic curves may decrease such phenomena.
