Effect of chlorine atoms in choline chloride-monocarboxylic acid for the pretreatment of oil palm fronds and enzymatic hydrolysis

Shen Khang Tnah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pretreatment of oil palm fronds using choline chloride and various monocarboxylic acids as solvents. The combination of choline chloride with monochloroacetic acid and dichloroacetic acid showed promising results, while the combination with trichloroacetic acid was found to be unstable. Choline chloride with dichloroacetic acid was identified as one of the most effective solvents for biomass pretreatment under relatively mild conditions.

Summary: This study analyzed the biorefining process using deep eutectic solvent pretreatment, showing that acidic DES had better results in biomass refining. The choline chloride/lactic acid pretreatment process had higher bioethanol yield and lower MESP. Sensitivity analysis indicated that factors like cellulose conversion rate, acetone price, and lactic acid price significantly affected the MESP fluctuation.
