Experimental investigation on dispersed phase holdup in an L-shape pulsed packed extraction column

Sajad Khooshechin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dispersed phase hold-up in a pilot plant of a new type of extraction column, finding that pulsation intensity, dispersed phase flow rate, and interfacial tension significantly affect hold-up. The behavior of hold-up in the horizontal and vertical sections of the column is distinctive, with factors reducing drop size leading to changes in hold-up. A new correlation was proposed to accurately predict dispersed phase hold-up, showing good agreement with experimental results.
