Fast removal of trichloroethene from groundwater using surfactant amended bone char and green rusts mixture: Mechanism of surface interface interaction

Fengmin Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that pre-mixing bone char and anionic surfactants could enhance the dehalogenation effect of trichloroethylene (TCE). Higher concentrations of bone char and surfactants led to faster dehalogenation. In the pre-mixture of 1 g/L bone char and 0.16% anionic surfactants with 30 mM [Fe (II)] green rust addition, 20 μM of TCE was eliminated in 2 hours. Ionic and nonionic surfactants inhibited the dehalogenation reaction.

Enhancement in reactivity via sulfidation of FeNi@BC for efficient removal of trichloroethylene: Insight mechanism and the role of reactive oxygen species

Ali Shan et al.

Summary: A novel catalyst of sulfidated iron-nickel supported on biochar (S-FeNi@BC) was synthesized for activating persulfate (PS) to remove trichloroethylene (TCE). The sulfur to iron ratio (S/F) influenced the TCE removal efficiency, with a significant role of sulfur in iron species conversion and recycling of Fe(II) for generating active radical species. EPR and quenching study confirmed the presence and contribution of these radicals, while XPS results demonstrated the dominant role of S(-II) in the PS/S-FeNi@BC system. Overall, S-FeNi@BC shows potential as an effective catalyst for TCE contaminated groundwater remediation.

Effect of Fe oxidation state (+2 versus+3) in precursor on the structure of Fe oxides/carbonates-based composites examined by XPS, FTIR and EXAFS

Natalia Chubar et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the use of different oxidation states of Fe as precursors can result in different structures and chemical properties of the products, especially forming different oxides and carbonates under high temperature and pressure conditions. The product from Fe(III) precursor was more crystalline but showed poorer anion uptake, while the product from Fe(II) precursor had greater potential for further phase transformations.

Removal of Cr(VI) by silica-titania core-shell nanocomposites: In vivo toxicity assessment of the adsorbent by Drosophila melanogaster

Basanti Ekka et al.

Summary: The silica-titania core-shell nanocomposite showed high adsorption efficiency for Cr(VI) removal from synthetic solution under different experimental conditions. The adsorption process followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, indicating an endothermic and spontaneous nature of the process. The nanocomposite also exhibited no cytotoxic effects on Drosophila, suggesting its potential as a nontoxic material for water treatment.

Efficient removal of Cr(VI) by polyaniline modified biochar from date (Phoenix dactylifera) seed

Swagatika Tripathy et al.

Summary: This study reports a polyaniline coated date seed derived biochar as an efficient adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal. Thorough analysis and various experiments confirm the structural stability, suitable morphology, and surface modulation capability of the adsorbent. The adsorbent shows good removal efficiency in experiments and successful regeneration up to 5 cycles, making it a promising option for field applications study.
