Biomimetic nanocomposite hydrogel networks for robust wet adhesion to tissues

Yajun Chen et al.

Summary: Designing multifunctional medical adhesives with strong adhesiveness under water is challenging, but a combination of hydrogel matrix and nanocrystal fillers has shown potential. This hydrogel adhesive mechanism relies on absorption of interfacial water and hydration process of nanocrystals for strong cohesion, with further improvement through noncovalent and covalent bonds.

A study of the interfacial chemistry between polymeric methylene diphenyl di-isocyanate and a Fe-Cr alloy

Jorge Banuls-Ciscar et al.

Summary: The interactions between pMDI and a Fe-Cr alloy were studied using XPS and ToF-SIMS, with MVA methods identifying specific ions and chemical species related to the interfacial region. Two complementary reaction mechanisms were proposed based on the data, with a range of cluster ions used for analysis. A repeat of ToF-SIMS sputter profiles in a different system using argon cluster ions ensured direct comparability of the data.

Towards Large-Scale Fabrication of Self-Healable Functional Hydrogel Coatings for Anti-Fog/Frost Surfaces and Flexible Sensors

Yonggan Yan et al.

Summary: A large-scale and surface-independent multifunctional hydrogel coating has been developed, showing superior anti-fog, anti-frosting, self-healing, and electrically conductive properties. By patterning the coating onto an elastic substrate, a foldable tape sensor has been fabricated, capable of distinguishing different lengths of operations and detecting electrical signals corresponding to cyclic bending deformation.

Coacervation-driven instant paintable underwater adhesives with tunable optical and electrochromic properties

Qiongyao Peng et al.

Summary: Coacervation refers to liquid-liquid phase separation of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions, playing a crucial role in biological processes and inspiring biomimetic designs of underwater adhesives. A novel instant underwater adhesive based on coacervation with silicotungstic acid and P123 micelles is presented, showing excellent underwater adhesion and promising applications in bioengineering and flexible electronics. The adhesive exhibits resistance to water flush, repeatable stretching, thermal-responsive optical properties, and outstanding stability in high-salt aqueous solutions, outperforming many previously reported coacervates.
