A molecular investigation of urea and creatinine removal in the wearable dialysis device using Two-Dimensional materials

Reza Maleki et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that novel two-dimensional materials have high attraction energy for urea and stable creatinine removal capacity. Twelve different types of 2D materials can adsorb urea with high adsorption energies, while COF, MXene, MoO3, and Bithmuthene monolayers show enhanced urea and creatinine adsorption compared to other materials.

Heparin immobilized graphene oxide in polyetherimide membranes for hemodialysis with enhanced hemocompatibility and removal of uremic toxins

Noel Jacob Kaleekkal

Summary: Intermittent hemodialysis is a life-saving renal replacement therapy that removes excess water and uremic salts from patients with kidney function loss. Hemocompatible polyetherimide membranes incorporating functionalized graphene oxide (f-GO) showed improved blood compatibility, protein adsorption suppression, platelet activation inhibition, and enhanced removal efficiency of uremic toxins. Further studies are needed to explore the potential application of these membranes in hemodialysis.

Molecular insight into COF monolayers for urea sorption in artificial kidneys

Ahmad Miri Jahromi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the urea adsorption capacity of five types of last-generation COF nanosheets through molecular dynamics simulations, with TPA-COF demonstrating the best performance. The findings suggest that COF nanosheets, especially TPA-COF modified with -OH functional group, show promise as an adsorbent for urea removal.
