MicroRNA: An Emerging Predictive, Diagnostic, Prognostic and Therapeutic Strategy in Ischaemic Stroke

Rais Reskiawan A. Kadir et al.

Summary: Stroke is the third-leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and the limited availability of diagnostic tools, therapeutics, and biomarkers remains a major challenge. Recent research has discovered the potential of miRNAs, non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression, as reliable blood-based markers for predicting, diagnosing, and prognosing ischemic stroke. Additionally, miRNA treatments have shown potential neuroprotective effects in animal models of ischemic stroke. However, further research is needed to determine the optimal treatment timing and route of administration.
