Recent progress in bismuth ferrite-based thin films as a promising photovoltaic material

Mohammad Moein Seyfouri et al.

Summary: The application of ferroelectric oxides in photovoltaic devices, particularly bismuth ferrite thin films, has been revitalized. These materials exhibit above-bandgap photovoltage and switchable photocurrent, and can display new functionalities when coupled with ferroic orders. Research has focused on enhancing photovoltaic performance, emphasizing design principles for tailoring the photovoltaic effect through interface effects of electrodes and oxygen vacancies, as well as bandgap engineering. Future perspectives include integrating bismuth ferrite-based perovskites with other solar absorbers for highly efficient photovoltaic devices.

Enhanced photovoltaic effect derived from the regulation of Jahn-Teller distortion in a lattice compensation structure

Yaping Liu et al.

Summary: By lattice compensation modification, a narrow bandgap and large remanent polarization were achieved, enhancing the ferroelectric photovoltaic effect. Eu doping led to lattice shrink, but the J-T distortion compensated for this reduction.

Anomalous circular bulk photovoltaic effect in BiFeO3 thin films with stripe-domain pattern

David S. Knoche et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of bulk photovoltaic effect in BiFeO3 thin films under different polarization conditions, revealing anomalous characteristics in open-circuit voltages under circularly polarized light. Spatially-resolved Raman measurements further analyze the interaction between light and different domains.

Role of Bi chemical pressure on electrical properties of BiFeO3-BaTiO3-based ceramics

Tauseef Ahmed et al.

Summary: The effect of Bi non-stoichiometry on BiFeO3-BaTiO3 (BF-BT) ceramics was investigated through the synthesis of 0.65Bi(1+x)FeO(3)-0.35BaTiO(3) ceramics with different sintering temperatures (T-S) to control the Bi non-stoichiometry. It was found that significant enhancements in ferroelectric, dielectric, and piezoelectric properties were observed at x = 0.05, with the maximum piezoelectric properties found at T-S = 1000 degrees C with x = 0.05.
