This study fabricated a TiB2/TiC hybrid material with improved microwave absorption performance in harsh environments. The three-dimensional multilayer network formed by TiC nanosheets brought reasonable dielectric loss, higher dipole moments, and interface effect, which promoted the enhancement of microwave absorption capacity.
Searching for microwave absorbers with excellent microwave absorption performance in harsh environments is still a huge challenge. Here, a novel hybrid of TiB2 plates decorated by multi-layer TiC nanosheets (TiB2/TiC hybrids) was fabricated via a molten salt-mediated carbothermal reduction. Due to the increase of the reflective interface, the TiB2/TiC hybrids exhibited improved microwave absorption performance with a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value of -52.5 dB (13.1 GHz, 5.2 mm). The reasonable dielectric loss, higher dipole moments and interface effect whereas brought by the three-dimensional multilayer network formed by TiC nanosheets together promoted the improvement of the microwave absorption capacity of TiB2/TiC hybrids.
