Load-bearing biodegradable PCL-PGA-beta TCP scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration

Alok Kumar et al.

Summary: A biodegradable composite structure of PCL-PGA with varying amounts of PGA was designed, showing potential for bone tissue engineering applications in bone defect repair. The porosity developed during PGA degradation compensated for the decrease in mechanical properties, making it a suitable candidate for bone reconstruction where strength and biodegradation are important.

Characterization and biological properties of nanostructured clinoenstatite scaffolds for bone tissue engineering applications

H. R. Bakhsheshi-Rad et al.

Summary: The study fabricated highly porous clinoenstatite scaffolds with different micropore sizes and outstanding interconnectivity, whose compressive strength was increased by enhancing NaCl particle size while reducing pore size and interconnectivity. Nano structured CLEN scaffolds with pore sizes ranging from 450-650 μm and porosity above 77-81% exhibited superior compressive strength. The antimicrobial performance of MTZ-embedded CLEN scaffolds against Fn and Aa bacteria improved with increasing MTZ loading, showing potential for bone repair in tissue engineering applications.

Microstructural, mechanical properties and strengthening mechanism of DLP produced β-tricalcium phosphate scaffolds by incorporation of MgO/ZnO/58S bioglass

Hang Zhang et al.

Summary: Incorporating ZnO, MgO, and BG into beta-TCP resulted in ZMBT scaffolds with significantly improved mechanical properties and biocompatibility. The ZMBT scaffolds exhibited enhanced pH environment, apatite-mineralization formation, and released Si4+, Mg2+, and Zn2+ ions gradually. Moreover, the scaffolds showed excellent cell attachment, proliferation, ALP activity, and up-regulated osteogenic gene expression, making them a promising candidate for bone repair applications.
