Effect of lattice structure evolution on the thermal and mechanical properties of Cu-Al2O3/GNPs nanocomposites

Abdulrahman Khamaj et al.

Summary: In this study, Cu-based hybrid nanocomposites reinforced by Al2O3 and GNPs were manufactured using high-energy ball milling, compaction, and sintering. Experimental consideration of different processing parameters led to the fabrication of nanocomposites with superior mechanical and thermal properties, particularly for the composition containing 0.5% GNPs sintered at 1000 C. Improved performance was attributed to factors such as low stacking fault energy, small crystallite size, and better dispersion of nano-particles in the matrix.

Interface formation and bonding control in high-volume-fraction (TiC+TiB2)/Al composites and their roles in enhancing properties

Hong-Yu Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, (TiC+TiB2)/Al composites fabricated using the Al-Ti-B4C system showed significantly enhanced mechanical properties compared to TiC/Al composites, attributed to the improved interface bonding strength and energy dissipation of crack propagation. The reduction in reaction heat, improved crystallographic match, and enhanced adhesion work between ceramic particles and matrix in the (TiC+TiB2)/Al composites contributed to the formation of enhanced interfaces, providing a new idea for the design and control of interfaces in high-volume-fraction ceramic-metal composites.

High strength and conductivity copper/graphene composites prepared by severe plastic deformation of graphene coated copper powder

Tiejun Li et al.

Summary: High-quality graphene was uniformly dispersed in a copper matrix through chemical vapor deposition, resulting in the formation of a graphene-coated copper powder. Metallurgical bonding between original copper powders was hindered by the graphene during vacuum hot pressing, and copper grains were recrystallized and refined during hot extrusion. Partial agglomeration of graphene during hot extrusion was dispersed again during cold drawing, leading to improved mechanical and electrical properties in the composite.

Achieving high strength and ductility in ODS-W alloy by employing oxide@W core-shell nanopowder as precursor

Zhi Dong et al.

Summary: The aggregation and coarsening of oxide particles at grain boundaries has been a bottleneck for improving the mechanical properties of oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) alloys. In this study, core-shell nanopowder precursors were employed to achieve uniform dispersion of oxides in ODS alloys, resulting in a significant enhancement in strength and ductility of the alloy. This strategy has the potential to be applied to other dispersion-strengthened alloy systems, offering promising prospects for high-temperature applications.
